Adventure Dog
"Four days after Hurricane Wilma struck South Florida, I decided to go on a
long run on the beach. It was a beautiful, breezy day, so before I left home I partially
opened the windows to let the breeze in. When I returned about 6 hours later, I noticed
that the living room window was closed, and the fan was on; I didn’t think too much of
it, though, because I had arranged for my neighbor to come in and set up rabbit ears on
my TV while I was gone. I figured he was hot, so he closed the window and turned on the
fan.Bookmark/Search this post with -
Avery - To Love, Honor, and Protect
I am sure you receive many letters regarding special pets. However, not many dogs are
smart enough to know what to do to save a life. My dog, Avery, saved the lives
of my brother and nephew; and, I can tell you that they will never forget that day
or that dog.
I live downtown. My wife and I had been out of town for the weekend when my brother and nephew were staying in our home. My nephew lives in the area; and, my brother comes through here for monthly meetings. It is during these visits that my brother, Chris, spends time with his son, Ramsey. Sometimes they stay at our house.

Copper's Rescue
"On September 16, 2008 Andrea, Chad and their dog Copper were driving down
an old forest road when an animal, possibly an elk stepped out in front of the car.
Andrea did what her father always told her not to do, she swerved. She instantly
knew her mistake and told Chad, “hang on, we’re going over”.
What they didn’t realize until daylight was that “over” meant a 150 foot cliff. After what seemed like eternity the jeep finally came to a rest upside down.

Hurricane Katrina Survivor Rescued
"My two dogs, Noss and Chata, went through Hurricane Katrina. Unfortunately
we had to go to a shelter, and during the storm my fence came down and the dogs escaped. My neighbor
across the street had decided to ride out the storm, so he retrieved my dogs and put them in his yard -
only to have his own fence blown down. Once again, the dogs got out but he was able to get them back.
Two days after the storm, Noss got out again and was barking at another neighbor's dog through the fence. The neighbor decided he had enough of the barking and shot Noss.

Kramer, Man's Best Friend
"This story is about the final days of my little boy, my best friend and companion,
Kramer. Kramer had always been one of the sweetest dogs there is. He made
friends everywhere he went, and even those who did not like dogs regarded Kramer
as an old spirit and easily returned his love.
Kramer became arthritic in his last year, and despite many treatments, the days of Kramer hoisting his 80 pound frame into a vehicle to join me at work or with friends or even lugging himself around the block were no longer frequent.

Lemon the Duck
Lemon is one of four Pekin ducks hatched in a Kindergarten classroom in
April of 2006. Lemon, a crested Pekin, was born with neurological issues which
affect her coordination and balance. She is unable to walk but she has become
quite a little swimmer. She grew up in a classroom and with her teacher friend,
so she is an imprinted duck. She's drawn to the many people she meets, especially
children.Bookmark/Search this post with -
Oki, Canine Angel of Felines in Need
We are three kitties: Narkis, Fanti and Maui. Our canine companion Oki the Terrier changed our lives for good. Oki took Fanti and Maui away from the miserable life as feral cats in an abused colony.
Oki's life had not been easy, either. He had been hit by a car and left to die in the middle of a busy avenue. Our Mummy happened to ride past by and stopped immediately when she saw a terrified malnourished canine lying injured on scorching asphalt. Mummy picked him up and took him straight to the vet. He happened to be a blind and deaf senior canine.

Prince Duke and His "Kids"
Duke was my gentle as a lamb Rottweiler. While coming home from work one evening,
I saw a dead possum in the middle of the road. It had something crawling on it
so I stopped to take a look. I found 13 teeny, tiny baby possums moving around
on their deceased mother. She had been hit by a passing vehicle. The little ones
miraculously survived the impact. I suppose it was from being well protected
inside their mom’s pouch.Bookmark/Search this post with -
Sam I Am
Because of old age, we had just lost two more of the many animals that we had
saved from abusive situations. I was not in the mood to take on any more animals,
mainly because of the high veterinary costs that we had incurred throughout the
years. A process we began almost ten years ago; one that that has caused us many
hardships.Bookmark/Search this post with -
Superdog Stella
Our dog Stella is a brindle (brown/white) Boston terrier breed. She is the sweetest puppy, always jumping on our bed waking us up in the morning, following us around as we're getting ready for work in the morning, and faithfully waits by the window for us to get home.
