Weak Legs

By Dee - Posted on 18 November 2008

Any advice for my 13-year old lab/mix, whose legs are very shakey. I am rubbing them and she has just started accupuncture.
Tks.

Hi Dee,

We have an old dog too (also 13) who has weak hind legs. They tremble even when he's just standing still, and tremble much worse when he's on a walk. We have tried a few things. The first is the "Freedom to Move" arthritis supplement which we bought at a TailBlazers store. It helped a little but not enough for us. Then we tried giving him elk velvet antler (it's a powder). We were really skeptical but there has been a big change! He's not running marathons but he's much better.

A friend whose dog has since passed away, used to give him something called "Rapid Response" which she said worked really well. Her dog had really weak back legs (he would sometimes fall down). I never saw him regain full mobility but he was still able to go on walks up until the end.

Hope that helps...
