My dog hates the toothbrush

Unfortunately my dog hates the toothbrush and won't let us touch his mouth. We've tried and tried and just can't get him to cooperate! That's why we're investigating dental gel or dental spray. I'm hoping it gives us an alternative to putting him under anesthesia just for a dental cleaning.
